Our History
From Passion Project to Handmade Haven
Trevellum Gifts traces its roots to 2018 in a cozy Colorado garage, where founder Elena Voss, a passionate artisan jeweler with a background in fine arts, grew weary of impersonal, mass-manufactured gifts flooding the market. Fresh from her own craft stall at local farmers’ markets, Elena curated her first five pieces from fellow US makers – a hand-hammered necklace, a carved walnut box, and delicate pottery – launching the site on a shoestring budget with just a laptop and sheer determination. The name ‘Trevellum’ evokes ‘trevel’ for travel-worn treasures and ‘ellum’ for illumination, symbolizing gifts that light up lives with stories from afar.
Word-of-mouth magic struck early: a viral Instagram post of a personalized wedding keepsake garnered 500 shares, propelling first-year sales to 1,000 orders. By 2020, amid pandemic challenges, Elena pivoted to nationwide shipping, partnering with 20 more artisans via virtual craft collectives. This resilience paid off – revenue tripled as remote workers sought meaningful home comforts.
2022 marked expansion: a 5,000 sq ft warehouse in Ohio centralized operations, enabling faster fulfillment and bulk gifting for corporates. We hit 10,000 customers, earning spots in Forbes’ ‘Small Business Heroes’ and a nod from Etsy influencers. In 2024, sustainability surged with our Ethical Artisan Pledge, sourcing only reclaimed materials and achieving B-Corp certification. Oprah’s Favorite Things feature that year skyrocketed us to 50,000 gifts shipped.
